Springvale Hostel provides top quality accommodation and pastoral care for students from country Tasmania and overseas who attend school, college and University (when places are available) in Hobart.
Accommodation is spread across three buildings and consists of 45 high-quality single rooms, 10 twin-share rooms and 5 large dormitories. All rooms are fully carpeted, have electric heating, and generous wardrobe and storage. Senior students have built-in study desks and wireless network computer access. The rooms are light and airy with ample space for residents.
There are two large dining rooms capable of seating 80 or more, and a modern kitchen well able to cater for this number of residents. Springvale is an ideal place for both school term boarders and summer holiday tourists.
The maximum capacity (without using bunks) is 87, and when students are not studying there are excellent recreational facilities including two 8-ball rooms, home theatre, TV lounges, kitchenettes and spacious grounds.
Term activities include house events, formal dinners, and a range of outings to keep students engaged and vitalised. The student council, known as the Speakers, runs its own tuck shop, conducts fund raising activities and also organises in-house activities for students. There is a student computer lab monitored and maintained by the Education Department.
Our facilities will be extended in 2011 when our new accommodation wing “Midwood Manor” opens.
Midwood Manor will add an additional 20 rooms specifically for international students of any age studying in Hobart, and will include a conference venue capable of seating 100 people.
